In watching "MTV's True Life: Southern Belle," we see that a "Southern Belle" is a stereotypically vapid southern blonde white woman hell-bent on conforming to a sado-masochist vision of proper womanhood. Typical characteristics of an aspiring or "professional" Belle are: extreme narcissism, poor grammar and an obsession with "Southern" culture and alienating themselves with more mainstream homogeneous metro-culture. The saddest thing though is the day that they realize they're "old" and are no longer pretty, casting them into a dark brooding depression battled with eating...turning them into the 350 pound troll women often encountered in the South.
Raini, from MTV's True Life: Southern Belle, cries when her 350 pound mother doesn't drive fast enough to the pageant.
